Switzerland has recently legalized the usage of Sarco Suicide Pod, the portable, 3D-printed coffin-like container that has windows for assisted suicide. The prototype was developed in the Netherlands and developed by the Australia-based International non-profit Exit International, the pod looks like a coffin, and is expected to be in implementation in Switzerland in 2022.

The assisted-dying or voluntary euthanasia industry in Switzerland requires the consumption of sodium pentobarbital in liquid form because of its speedy start of coma, and its impression of a peaceful passing The Sarco pods could offer a tranquil death, without the use of controlled substances. The Sarco website states that the capsule's style "was intended to suggest a sense of occasion: of travel to a 'new destination', and to dispel any 'yuk' factor."

The Sarco pod is a capsule that has the slogan "Go with style" -it can be towable into a preferred location by the person who wants to end their life and is activated from inside, the founder of Exit International Dr Philip Nitschke was quoted when speaking to Swiss Info. "The person will lie down inside the capsule and they will be asked a couple of questions, and after which they will be given time to press the button to activate the process," Nitschke explained.

After activation by the pod, it is filled with nitrogen. It also decreases oxygen, causing the individual to lose consciousness and eventually end up dying without panicking or breathing. The whole process can take approximately one minute.

In a demonstration held last year in the year 2000, Dr. Nitschke declared, "The benefit for the person who uses it is that they don't need some special doctor to try and get a needle in, and they don't need to obtain difficult drugs."
